Daily Iberian article about the unveiling of the 2019 New Iberia Spanish Festival Painting

Trent Oubre Studio was featured in an article about the unveiling of the 2019 New Iberia Spanish Festival Painting I was commissioned to create. Here is a snippet. Visit Iberia.net to read more.

“When I think of Spain, one thing that comes to mind is beautiful dark haired women,” Oubre said. “Many paintings portray a woman dancing flamenco and a man playing guitar. I thought, ‘How can I do something different with that theme?’”

Working within the canvas space first for composition, Oubre started with the winding Bayou Teche in the upper left corner, a shape echoed in the centerpiece guitar.

“The woman playing guitar represents a mother,” Oubre said. “Our ancestors passing on their wisdom through music to her children, the dancers. In that way, the dancers represent the descendants of the original Spanish settlers of New Iberia.”
